The Communications Coordinator (Student Intern) will support the Academic Affairs in achieving its strategic communication objectives.

Description of key duties

  • Support the Academic Affairs Office in adopting the University’s new brand standards by updating documents and communication tools with the secondary mark (logo) and by incorporating the new font options and color palette.
  • Support the Academic Affairs Office in developing and refreshing internal communication assets, such as report templates, downloadable resources, professional development certificates, digital badges, and infographics.
  • Support the Academic Affairs Office in creating and implementing environmental graphics within the OIE office and across campus.

Minimum requirements for knowledge, skills, and attributes

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Attending regular development staff meetings
  • Host guests at both local and regional Lions Booster Club events
  • Basic data entry and attributing to gain familiarity with Raiser’s Edge database
  • Donor stewardship initiatives (mailings, gift selection, personal thank you correspondence)
  • Executing annual fund appeals (mailings and follow-up calls)
  • Create, track, market and promote Lions Booster Club activities in coordination with university communications and our social media team
  • Peer benchmarking and research projects

Accessibility Challenges

Campus Audit

  • Intern will compile results from previous campus audits and determine and address gaps in information.
  • The audit will look at buildings, paths, events, and other campus activities and opportunities.

Based on the audit and focus groups (see below), the intern will develop an interactive, dynamic campus map. The map(s) would provide spatial information to a variety of stakeholders.

Accessibility Opportunities

  • Using the audit results, intern will develop a list of priorities to make LU more accessible and more friendly to students, faculty, and staff with various physical disabilities.
  • Intern will coordinate focus groups/meetings with various stakeholders to define gaps in audit results and refine priorities based on experience.
  • Intern will develop strategies/materials to facilitate communication (for students, advisors, sponsors of campus clubs/activities, and all other invested parties).
  • Intern will begin developing strategies for recruiting students with physical disabilities to our campus in coordination with enrollment management.

Job Description

Are you a social work or special education major? Are you interested in advocacy efforts and social justice? Do you love Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ and its students, faculty, and staff? If so, this might be the opportunity for you! In this internship, you will engage with and advocate for our students, faculty, and staff that have physical disabilities. Internship duties involve performing/refining a full campus accessibility audit, meeting with relevant stakeholders, determining strategies for improving accessibility—in all forms—on our campus, and designing and implementing communication initiatives that increase awareness of and responsiveness to individuals with physical disabilities (or injuries).

Advising

  • Meets with students to create a career development plan including components of career assessment, definition of career and internship goals, choosing a major, job-search, resume preparation, interviewing, and applying to graduate/professional school. 
  • Refers students to workshops, career strategists, and/or resources as appropriate. 
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge and information about career resources and events. 

Employer Relations

Communicates with employers via telephone, letter, on-site visits, and on-campus recruitment and career fairs. 

  • Conducts all direct contact in a courteous, professional manner. 
  • Encourages employers to participate in career fairs, on-campus recruitment, and special programs, and to submit job announcements. 
  • Communicates this information to students in one-on-one meetings. 

Marketing

  • Bolster student participation in career fairs and workshops hosted by the career center by hosting information tables and conducting classroom visits. 

Recruitment

  • Serves as a resource to employers who host information tables on campus. 
  • Meets employer representative on the day of the recruitment, and answers his/her questions 
  • Career fairs/interview days: Participates in all fairs as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Research, develop and create content for social media for Career Services and Study Abroad (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn) and assist with day-to-day account monitoring.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Library recently acquired The Sporting News (TSN) archival collection. It is a unique and prestigious collection related to sports and sports history with a heavy emphasis on baseball. The collection in total is rich and reflective of how individuals, businesses, and societies interact with sports. The importance of its contents speaks not only to sports history, but to American cultural history in general. TSN began as a family-owned business in 1886 based in St. Louis, MO, until it was bought by American City Business Journals and moved to Charlotte, NC in 2008. While it has strong ties to the St. Louis area, this collection is recognized by sports historians and archivists across the country. The intern(s) selected will have the opportunity to interact with these artifacts and assist the University Archivist in describing and digitizing these rare and fascinating documents.

Internship or applied learning position for a student with strong project management and marketing skills. This student will concentrate on developing a plan to promote the services provided at the LARC. Tasks include reviewing focus group data, student feedback data, and usage data; interviewing with LARC stakeholders; creating surveys; and collaborating with the LARC marketing team.
